Polite People Won’t Say This, But I Will – Part 1

Published on August 22, 2026

Most people are not as busy as they pretend to be.

We live in a world where “I’ve been so busy” has become the default response.

Busy has become a status symbol. A polite shield. A way to explain distance without having to be honest.

But let’s be real.

A lot of people aren’t actually that busy. They’re just not prioritizing you.

They’re not buried under impossible responsibilities. They’re scrolling. They’re resting. They’re giving their time to whatever feels easier or more interesting in the moment. And that’s fine people are allowed to choose where their energy goes.

What isn’t fine is the performance.

The dramatic sighs. The long explanations. The vague “life has been crazy” messages that somehow never turn into real effort.

Busyness has become a socially acceptable excuse for inconsistency, poor communication, and low effort. And because it sounds polite, we accept it. We nod. We say “no worries.” We lower our expectations quietly.

But the truth is simpler:

People make time for what matters to them. Everything else gets the leftover version of them - or nothing at all.

This doesn’t mean you should take it personally every time. Life does get heavy. Some seasons are genuinely demanding. But patterns don’t lie. When someone repeatedly has no time for you, the message is already clear.

You don’t need to chase clarity from people who only offer convenience.

You just need to believe what their actions are already saying.

This is Part 1 of a series where I’ll keep saying the things polite people usually avoid.
